Burkina Faso/ The Faso Mêbo initiative raises 341 Million CFA Francs as citizens take development into their own hands

OUAGADOUGOU — The figure is eloquent, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. As of Oct. 23, 2026, financial contributions to the presidential Faso Mêbo initiative had reached 341,786,028 CFA francs, collected across the country’s 17 regions through the Faso Arzeka platform and the Treasury Deposits Bank. Behind that amount lies a deeper reality: a people determined to stop waiting for development to come from elsewhere, and putting up its own resources.

The geography of the mobilization tells its own story of ownership. Kadiogo, the beating heart of the capital, leads with more than 75 million CFA francs, followed by Yaadga with 62.3 million.

Together, the two regions account for nearly 40% of contributions. But what stands out is the widespread participation: sixteen other regions show significant amounts, from Guiriko (25.6 million) to Sirba (10 million), including Bankui and Sourou. This is not the affair of an urban elite; it is a national surge.

And that surge is not limited to hard cash. In Yaadga, residents mobilized 154 donors, three functional paving-stone production sites, more than 800 tons of cement and 1,300 tons of crushed granite.

In Koudougou, in Nando, 1,805 tons of cement, nearly 5,000 molds and more than 8 million CFA francs in cash were gathered, making it possible to pave more than 200,000 square meters of the city. Every day, 200 to 300 people come to work voluntarily on the sites.

The dynamic even extends beyond borders. United Nations staff in Burkina Faso contributed 7.2 million CFA francs, exceeding their initial target, before joining the sites to help load paving stones. Burundian President, on an official visit, called the model “inspiring” and announced the dispatch of a mission to learn from it.

What Faso Mêbo reveals is a simple and powerful truth: when citizens see their donations turned into paved roads, beautified cities and concrete infrastructure, they give more. The Burkinabè people ask only to believe in their own development ; and to be its architects.
