After thirty years of instability fueled by Rwanda’s military interventions, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is resolutely committed to the path of peace and diversifying its partnerships to achieve its objectives. Among its allies of choice is now Israel, whose army is recognized as one of the most advanced, sophisticated and powerful in the world.
To confront Rwandan aggression and restore state authority over the entire Congolese territory, Kinshasa relies on Jerusalem. On September 1, 2026, President Felix Tshisekedi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held talks in Jerusalem. At the end of the meeting, Israel announced that the two leaders « are committed to strengthening security ties between the two countries. »
This cooperation provides the DRC with direct access to cutting-edge technologies and recognized defense expertise. Israel has a highly advanced defense industry, covering missile defense, cyber defense, and electronic equipment. In the context of the Rwandan invasion, Kinshasa could benefit from an efficient intelligence network to anticipate and counter threats.
« I am happy to welcome our dear friend, the President of the Republic of Congo. It is a great friendship that we are strengthening, and this visit will help to consolidate it further, » Netanyahu said. Through this strengthened partnership, the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) will be able to benefit from specialized tactical training and feedback from conflict situations.
In Jerusalem, Felix Tshisekedi also met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog. According to the Congolese head of state, the exchanges confirmed their common desire to give a new dimension to bilateral cooperation, particularly in agriculture and food security, water, health, technology and innovation, security, training and investment.
« Our ambition is to build a modern, pragmatic and mutually beneficial partnership with Israel, which is measured not only by the agreements we sign, but by their implementation and the results they produce for our two peoples, » said Felix Tshisekedi.
At the ministerial level, Kinshasa and Jerusalem reaffirmed their desire to « give a new strategic impetus to bilateral relations ». A dynamic that places the DRC on the path to sustainable reconstruction, combining security, development and sovereignty.
