Namibia: the mining boom, the sovereign engine of a great industrial destiny
Namibia is resoundingly confirming its position as a mining power on the continent. The 2025 financial year marks a spectacular success in the country’s economic history. The contribution of the extractive industry amounts to 14% of the gross domestic product. Tax revenues rose to $434 million, a remarkable increase of 39%. Royalties increased by 9% to $137 million, while export duties jumped by 90%. This financial health demonstrates the rigor of the State’s choices in the face of global uncertainty.
Under the firm impetus of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the trajectory of the sector is aligned with the Sixth National Development Plan. The strategy aims at popular prosperity. The mobilization of $2.8 billion through the Namibia Public-Private Forum prepares the creation of 18,000 direct jobs, in line with the national target of 500,000 jobs.
The economy is undergoing structural change. Corporate tax excluding diamonds soared by 54%, while diamond income fell by 69%. Gold and uranium are the real pillars of future prosperity. The major Etango and Tumas projects strengthen this position as key players in the energy sector.
The impact on national development takes its full measure in the demand for local transformation. The government prohibits gross exports and imposes processing on national soil. This policy builds a solid industrial fabric, inspires vocations among young people and guarantees a fair distribution of wealth. Namibia is proving the strength of economic sovereignty at the service of its people.
