Social Cohesion Conference Kicks Off in Nyala
Proceedings of a social cohesion conference between the Falata and Masalit tribes began today, Tuesday, October 6, in the city of Nyala, South Darfur State. The event is attended by traditional leaders, community mediators, officials from the transitional peace government, and security agencies.
The conference aims to address the aftermath of the events in Gereida Locality, resolve the dispute, and foster trust and peaceful coexistence between the two parties.
Mohamed Hassan El-Taishi, a member of the transitional peace government, emphasized that the events in Gereida should not be viewed merely as a tribal dispute. He attributed the escalation of conflicts to the weakness of state institutions and security agencies, stressing the necessity of upholding the rule of law and holding those involved accountable.
For their part, representatives of the Falata and Masalit tribes affirmed their commitment to peace and to turning a new page. They called for strengthening the roles of traditional leadership and the state in preventing the recurrence of conflicts and consolidating stability in South Darfur.
